All Master Lock padlocks are warranted to be free from mechanical defects for the life of the product. If a mechanical defect occurs, we will replace it free of charge.

If the product fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship at any time during the life of the product, Master Lock Company will replace it free of charge. Simply contact Master Lock for replacement information and complete warranty. This warranty does not cover products which have been abused, altered, damaged, misused, cut or worn. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MASTER LOCK COMPANY DISCLAIMS ALL OTHER IMPLIED OR EXPRESS WARRANTIES INCLUDING ALL WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND/OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Note: Any warranty stated on any packaging or website associated with this product is not valid in Australia.
Product sold in Australia is governed by the consumer guarantees contained in the Australian Consumer Law.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: This warranty is your sole remedy and MASTER LOCK COMPANY shall not be liable for any damages, whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or otherwise, including lost revenues and lost profits, arising out of any theory of recovery, including statutory, contract or tort. In no event will MASTER LOCK COMPANY’s entire liability exceed the purchase price of this product. Some states and provinces do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This limited warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state and province to province.

Lost Combination
Question: Can Master Lock keep a record of my combination and/or key numbers for me?

Question: What is the dialing sequence to open a fixed combination lock?
Answer: Please follow the steps outlined below:
  1. Turn the dial 3 times to the right and stop on the first number of the sequence.
  2. Turn the dial to the left, pass the first number of the sequence and stop on the second number.
  3. Turn the dial to the right and stop on the third number of the sequence.
  4. Pull up on the shackle.
Question: I’ve lost the combination to my resettable Master Lock. Can you tell me what it is?
Answer: Resettable combination locks have a combination that is assigned by the owner of the lock. Therefore, Master Lock does not have record of the combination that the owner set. The lock cannot be reset unless it is in the open position. If your lock is attached to something, you will need to call a locksmith for removal. Please note that Master Lock does not reimburse for Locksmith services and/or fees.
Question: How do I open (or reset) my TSA Approved Master Lock Travel Sentry™ Certified lock (Model # 4680EURDBLK or # 4680EURDNKL)?

Question: Someone was playing around with my resettable combination lock and accidentally reset the combination. Now, I do not know the correct combination. Is there any way to reset this lock back to "0" and assign a new combo?
Answer: Unfortunately, this lock is not resettable without knowing the combination that was assigned by the owner. It’s most likely that you will need to purchase a new lock.
Question: I have a brass padlock #175, #176 or #177 from Master Lock that has a resettable combination. I would like to reset the lock to a different combination, but have lost the instructions for doing this. Can you help me?
Answer: Models #175, 176 and 177:
  • Open lock with the factory set or previously set combination. The lock must be set to the current combination, or you cannot reset it. Note: the shackle must be in the open position to reset the combination.
  • Insert reset tool (enclosed in package) in hole on side of lock.
  • Push reset tool in and turn 90 degrees (in either direction). Reset tool automatically stays in this position.
  • Set wheels to desired combination.
  • Turn and remove reset tool. Lock is now set to new combination.
  • Record your new combination in a safe place.

Question: Can Master Lock reset my "set-your-own" combination lock if I return it to Master Lock?
Answer: Unfortunately, your lock is a "set-your-own" combination lock. Once you have set the combination, we cannot reset it for you!
Question: How do I reset the combination on my bike or cable lock? It has a resettable combination. I would like to reset the lock to a different combination, but have lost the instructions for doing this. Can you help me?
Answer: Please look for specific directions under the model number of your lock.

Model #8119, 8120 and 8122:
  • Open the lock and withdraw the cable.
  • Flip the small reset lever by the combination wheels to the "up" position.
  • Set the combo wheels to your desired combination, making sure the numbers are lined up with the marks on the case.
  • Flip the reset lever "down" to the starting position.
  • Record your new combination in a safe place.
Model #8280 (Pro-Sport):
  • Press the button and remove u-bar from lock body.
  • Open the anti-dust cover and align the opening combination to the guide points.
  • Push the red button towards notch in body. Hold down (there should be a clicking sound).
  • Turn the dials to your desired combination.
  • Pull back reset button to its original position. The lock should now be reset to your new combination.
  • Record your new combination in a safe place.
Model #8213 :
  • Set the combination wheels to 0-0-0-0 and push the ‘reset’ button located on the reverse of the base.
  • Reset the combination wheels to the desired combination making sure the numbers are lined up with the delta marks. Then press the release button situated on the left.
  • The new combination is now set.
  • To replace the battery, unscrew the battery cap, replace the battery (type: LR44) and screw back on.

Question: I have a retractable Master Lock cable lock (model #4603) and I have misplaced the instructions on how to set/reset a new combination
Answer: To Lock:
  1. Press Cable Trigger Button and extend cable to desired length.
  2. Insert Cable Head into Locking Port until it locks in place.
  3. Scramble the combination dials.
  4. Press the Cable Trigger Button to reduce slack and tighten cable.
To Un-lock:
  1. Turn Dials to the opening combination.
  2. Press the Release Button to release Cable Head from the Locking Port.
  3. Hold down the Cable Trigger Button to retract cable.
Caution: The cable return mechanism is spring loaded. Please keep your hands and face out of rebound path.

To Set/Reset Your Own Combination:
  1. The combination is pre-set at the factory to 0-0-0.
  2. While holding down the Cable Trigger Button, push down the Cable Head until you hear a "click".
  3. Rotate the Dials to your desired combination.
  4. Pull out Cable Head while holding down the Cable Trigger Button.

Note: Cable should be fully retracted for Step 1.

Question: I have a backpack lock model #1547, 1549, 1551, 1555 and 1559 from Master Lock. How can I reset the combination on my backpack lock?
Answer: Here are the instructions on how to reset the combination on your backpack lock (which is pre-set at the factory to open to combination 0-0-0):
  1. With dials at 0-0-0 (or combination the lock was previously set to), push in the shackle
  2. With shackle pushed in, set your new combination
  3. Release shackle and scramble wheels to lock
  4. Be sure to record your NEW combination as you are the only one that knows it!
Note: The lock may only be reset when it is in the open position. If you do not recall the combination the lock is set to, you will not be able to reset the combination.

Question: I have a Set-Your-Own Master Lock combination lock (model #1520, 1523, 1524, or 1534). How do I change the combination?
Answer: Here are instructions for changing your model number 1520/1523/1524/1534 combination lock:
  1. Open lock and withdraw the shackle.
  2. Pull spring loaded metal end cap off.
  3. Remove all 4 combination wheels.
  4. IMPORTANT: Make sure the red clutch plate marks remain aligned with pointer. Install wheels so desired combination aligns with pointer.
  5. Snap metal end cap back into place. (Note: If end cap will not mount properly, check wheels to make sure they are right side up.)

Answer: Here are the instructions for changing the combination on you model 604 and 7640 lock. This lock is preset at the factory to operate at 0-0-0-0.
  1. With dials at 0-0-0-0, pull out the shackle
  2. Turn shackle counter clockwise 180 degree (1/2 turn) and press it down
  3. Continue pressing shackle
  4. Set the dials to your own combination
  5. Lift and return the shackle to closed position
  6. Scramble the dials to lock
Note: The lock may only be reset when it is in the open position. If you do not recall the combination the lock is set to, you will not be able to reset the combination.

Answer: Here are the instructions for changing the combination on you model 653 lock. This lock is preset at the factory to operate at 0-0-0-0.
  1. With dials at 0-0-0-0, pull out the shackle
  2. Turn shackle counterclockwise 90 degree (1/4 turn)
  3. Continue pressing shackle down and turn another 90 degree (1/4 turn)
  4. Set the dials to your own combination
  5. Turn shackle clockwise back to the original 90 degree position, lift and return shackle to closed position
Note: The lock may only be reset when it is in the open position. If you do not recall the combination the lock is set to, you will not be able to reset the combination.

Question: One of my locks has become difficult to open, and it had to be cut off. Will Master Lock replace my lock?
Answer: All Master Lock padlocks are warranted to be free from mechanical defects for the life of the product. If a mechanical defect occurs, we will replace it free of charge. Click here to view instructions for obtaining a replacement lock.
Question: Will Master Lock reimburse me for my locksmith charges?
Answer: Master Lock does not reimburse for locksmith fees and/or services.
Question: How long does it take to receive a replacement lock once my warranty claim has been accepted?
Answer: The time will vary depending on the type of lock, and whether your replacement needs to be custom-built. Generally, you should receive your replacement within 2-4 weeks.
Question: I have a Master Lock padlock that only opens occasionally. What can I do?

Question: I have a brass resettable combination lock that sticks from time to time. Is there anything I can do?
Answer: We recommend lubricating your lock with a dry lubricant, such as: LPS, TRI FLOW, KRYTOX RFE Advanced PTFE, or Elmer’s Slide-All. NEVER use an oil or dry graphite lubricant because all attracts dust and can also interfere with the movement of the locking mechanism.
